Some squares hide mines. Tap a square to dig it: a number tells you how many mines touch that square, and an empty square opens its neighbours automatically. Flag the squares you think hide mines, and clear everything else to win.
How to play
Your first dig is always safe, so you can never lose on move one. Use the numbers to work out where mines must be. On a phone, switch on flag mode to flag squares, or press and hold a square. On a computer, right-click to flag. If a number already has that many flags around it, tap the number to open the rest of its neighbours at once.
Logic tips
- Start with the 1s. A 1 touching exactly one hidden square means that square is a mine.
- Count the flags. When a number's flags match the number, every other neighbour is safe.
- Compare neighbours. A 1-2-1 pattern along a wall usually puts mines under the 2's neighbours.
- Do not guess early. Open more safe squares first; guessing is a last resort.
There are three boards: Easy is 9×9 with 10 mines, Medium is 12×12 with 24 and Hard is 14×14 with 40.
Frequently asked questions
Is the first click safe?
Yes. Mines are placed after your first dig, never on or next to it.
How do I flag on a phone?
Turn on flag mode, or press and hold a square.
How do I flag on a computer?
Right-click a square.
What does tapping a number do?
If the right number of flags surround it, it opens all the other neighbouring squares.
Is it always solvable without guessing?
Not always. Some boards need a guess, as in the classic game.
