Type a word and press Enter. Green means the right letter in the right place, yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else, and grey means it is not in the word at all. You have six guesses.
A strong first guess uses common letters, such as E, A, R, T and O, with no repeats. For longer words, look for endings like -ING, -ED and -ER early on.
Repeated letters follow a simple rule: a letter is only coloured as many times as it appears in the hidden word. If you guess a word with two Ls and only one is in the answer, one L is coloured and the other is grey.
Switch to Daily word to play the puzzle everyone shares that day, then copy your coloured result to compare with friends.
Tips for guessing faster
- Open with variety. A first word with five different common letters tests the most possibilities at once.
- Use your second guess to learn. If the first word gave you nothing, pick a second word with completely new letters.
- Think about position. Some letters are common at the start of words (S, C, T) and others at the end (E, Y, D).
- Do not repeat grey letters. A grey letter is not in the word, so avoid it unless it appears twice in your guess for a reason.
- Watch for double letters. Words like SPEED or APPLE hide repeats that single-letter thinking misses.
Why choose a different length?
Four-letter words are quick and a good warm-up. Six and seven-letter words give you more information per guess, because there are more letters to colour, but the pool of possible words is wider. Many players find seven letters surprisingly easy once a few vowels appear.
