Twitter's old 'over capacity' error screen starred a cartoon whale lifted aloft by birds, affectionately called the Fail Whale.

In Twitter's early years the site crashed so often that its error image became a beloved icon in its own right, complete with a fan club. The illustration, by artist Yiying Lu, turned a moment of frustration into something users almost enjoyed seeing.
